UHSM (University Hospital South Manchester) stakes its claim as Britain’s greenest Hospital.

It cites a range of initiatives of Wythenshawe Hospital, including the recent addition of a Biomass Boiler – a first for a North West Hospital – which is set to reduce annual CO² emissions by a further 3,459 tonnes, and will be equivalent to the savings associated with 494 homes.

The achievement of UHSM in cutting emissions has been recognised by the carbon trust, which has awarded UHSM the coveted Carbon Trust Standard, one of only a few hospital trusts to achieve the prestigious award in the UK.

“We have a strong commitment by the trust board and staff and volunteers to maintain a robust sustainability policy and an ambition to move closer to our ultimate goal of carbon neutrality”
